Upcoming changes to QuickBooks products and pricing

A message from Ted Callahan and Miranda Henely and the entire QuickBooks Accountant team:

Thank you for being a valued partner. We appreciate all you do to help small businesses succeed. As part of our commitment to tell you about business decisions that impact you and your clients, we want to inform you of upcoming price changes for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Payroll beginning in July. Below are specific details in one consolidated communication. We also want to inform you that we are evaluating our QuickBooks Desktop pricing for changes going into effect in mid-September. While news about price increases is never easy to hear, price increases are often necessary to deliver the products, services and support you and your clients need today and in the future.

Why are we making these changes?
Based on increasing demand for QuickBooks Online and our mission to help our customers thrive, we are accelerating our investment in QuickBooks Online platform products. Recent QuickBooks Online improvements resulting from our investments include:

We also continue to improve our offerings for you and provide new QuickBooks ProAdvisor benefits. We expect to complete our roll-out of revenue share to all U.S.-based ProAdvisors by July 2022. In addition, we are launching personalized ProAdvisor training paths which provide point-of-need training that will enable you and your team to increase expertise and achieve your goals. On top of that, exclusively for Gold, Platinum and Elite ProAdvisors, we are providing access to Mailchimp at an exclusive 15% discount beginning May 31, 2022.

Here is a comprehensive list of changes and we understand that some of these changes may not apply to you. Use the links below to navigate to the appropriate section.

QuickBooks Desktop
QuickBooks Desktop 2023 products will be available for accountants on September 6, 2022 and September 20, 2022 for general release to small businesses. QuickBooks Desktop pricing updates:
Below are some key details regarding the upcoming QuickBooks Desktop pricing changes:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Plus products will be sold at full MSRP, with no discounts in any channel.
  • You will receive notification in early August regarding the following expected price increases:
    • QuickBooks Desktop ProAdvisor Bundle
    • QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll per-employee cost
    • QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Mac Plus, and Premier Plus

QuickBooks Accountant Desktop Plus launch and ProAdvisor Bundle updates:
This year we will change our standalone QuickBooks Accountant Desktop product to an annual subscription product. It will be available through our internal sales channels and will:

  • Replace the legacy QuickBooks Accountant Desktop perpetual (3-year supported) license.
  • Include multi-user access not available via a ProAdvisor bundle.

The 2023 QuickBooks Desktop Accountant and Enterprise Accountant licenses included in the ProAdvisor bundles will shift the support timeline to align with the annual subscription. Therefore, the 2023 subscription licenses will now be supported through May 31, 2024. Active ProAdvisor subscribers will continue to have access to supported versions, with connected services, as they are released.

QuickBooks Desktop Payroll product line updates

Starting June 1, 2022, two Desktop Payroll products will no longer be offered for new purchases:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Assisted Payroll (as a standalone purchase, it will continue to be part of the QuickBooks Enterprise Diamond bundle).
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll for Accountants (EP4A).

These changes only impact new purchases and do not impact current subscriptions and renewals. Existing users will be able to continue their active subscriptions and will be offered renewals when the product expires. We are not discontinuing these products to current subscribers but are aiming to consolidate our product offerings to new subscribers.

For clients who need a full-service payroll solution, our suite of QuickBooks Online Payroll products are available to meet your clients’ needs.
